Excerpt
Excerpt VM Live Migration
Live Migration can be done from the Oracle VM manager or directly on the server where
the virtual machine is running. A virtual machine started from the Oracle VM manager
uses a configuration file stored in /OVS/running_pool/<VMname>/vm.cfg. Another
configuration file for the same virtual machine is stored in /etc/xen/<VMname>. The
content of these two files may differ. We found convenient to merge the content of the
two file in /OVS/running_pool/<VMname>/vm.cfg and to create a symbolic link from
/etc/xen/<VMname> to /OVS/running_pool/<VMname>/vm.cfg.
We noticed that a Live Migration does not work as expected if there is a slight difference
in the configuration files in /etc/ and /OVS, therefore the symbolic link makes the live migration easier.
From the Oracle VM manager
On the Virtual machines tab, select the VM to be migrated, then select “Live Migration” in
the “More Actions” list, and click Go. See the example below.
The destination server in the server pool will be asked.
From...................
From the Oracle VM server
The “xm migrate --live <Vm name> <destination server>” command migrates the virtual
machine <> running on the local Oracle VM server to the Oracle VM server <destination
server>. The following command issue a Live Migration of VM1 to the server named
“server2”
# xm migrate --live VM1 server2
