There are too many online payment systems that cover that such as paypal in digital goods for Facebook.Mary Wu (about 2 years ago)
I don't think this invention can be considered non-obvious or unique. Mobile payment with text messaging has been around since 1997. This patent includes the use of social networking sites for verification, such that the user's phone number corresponds to those sites. There seems to be several problems:
1) The inventor assumes people join at least two social networking sites.
2) Security is an issue. Even though the payment confirmation and approval messages could be sent to two different mobile numbers, what happens if you lose the phone that receives the approval text?
3) Following up on (2), is there a safeguard against lying? If a teenage lies about his/her age, then it seems the confirmation and approval messages will be sent to the same number and the fee will be paid from that number's account. However, the parent/guardian will still foot the bill (assuming that the parent pays the bill for each phone number).PEER TO PATENT ACTIVITY
