A system for managing the replacement of components in a device, said system comprising:a processor;a data bus coupled to the processor; anda computer-usable medium embodying computer code, the computer-usable medium being coupled to the data bus, the computer program code comprising instructions executable by the processor and configured for:analyzing a device having at least one replaceable component, wherein said at least one replaceable component comprises a particular replacement designation that only allows for replacement of said at least one replaceable component by a particular type of individual based on particular criteria; andautomatically altering said particular designation of said at least one replaceable component to an alternative replacement designation that allows for replacement of said at least one replaceable component by an alternative type of individual based on alternative criteria, in response to analyzing said device and determining that said particular replacement designation is capable of being changed to said alternative replacement designation.
