The majority of the claims for this patent application are related to business process and do not represent unique software logic related to tablets/kiosks.
For example, for this particular claim, there are existing tablet/kiosk applications in the field that allow a user to select his/her language by making an entry via keyboard, tablet touch-screen, or via tablet stylus.
Several recent applications that mirror the whole workflow of this functionality have been conducted for State Farm live marketing events. The whole "business process" concept can be abstracted and shown to have a similar workflow without HL7 compliance and other health-related specifics.
State Farm LDEC (live data event capture) Workflow:
1. Brand Ambassadors direct consumers to tablets or tablets set up in kiosk stands to enter their name, address, email, mobile number, and to scan a 10-digit barcode they received earlier in the event that associates to one or more photos of the user.
2. User selects his/her language by touching the tablet screen, and the subsequent questions appear in the target language.
3. The user enters name, address, email, mobile, and scans barcode on the tablet scanner.
4. The user is prompted to enter or correct information upon submit if errors are found.
5. The information the user enters is saved to a Consumer database (similar to the patient database) and later there will be an export from the Consumer database to an external system, such as a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system - this step does not require advanced security and compliance as does health information.
6. An onsite printer can print the user's photo or any other data that is relevant to the application at the live event. Any workflow and/or survey can be configured for live events and saved to an updated database model. The workflow/survey application is a web-based application that can run on a tablet, mobile, or PC-based browser. The updates on the tablets can be stored locally in the databases for synchronization later to the main database, or the tablets can be feature a WIFI connection to provide real-time updates to the database.
7. The user can be sent a notification, barcode (known as mCoupon when on a mobile phone), or other data to their email, mobile phone, or other device. This can be done real-time or later on a scheduled basis once the user has "opted in" (agreed to) a notification.
Again, despite that this patent is for the health care domain, the actual business process/workflow when abstracted is being carried out in other business domains. I would suggest that the scope of the patent is restricted to areas that specific to the technology of the healthcare domain and do not overlap business process and workflow.
