Mobile phone applications that synthesize voice to another format is already being done, whether output to an updated schedule, output to another voice format, or output to a text message.
For example, the company spinvox (http://www.spinvox.com/) offers a product for translating voice mails to text messages sent to a user's cell phone (i.e., the business case is that it's easier to read the text message than listen to all those voice mails).
