A document integrity verification method comprising:receiving an image format document representing a printed document, wherein the image format document represents a printed document containing a first original integrity verification code (IVC);generating a first verification data sequence from the image format document, wherein generating a first verification data sequence comprises performing an optical character recognition (OCR) process on the image format document;generating a first modified verification data sequence from the first verification data sequence in accordance with a set of modification rules, wherein at least one element of the first verification data sequence, between the first and final elements of the first verification data sequence, is modified in the first modified verification data sequence;generating a first verification IVC, wherein generating a first verification IVC comprises performing a one-way operation on the first modified verification data sequence;comparing the first verification IVC with the first original IVC; andreporting an indication of tampering to the printed document, responsive to the comparison of the first verification IVC with the first original IVC.

Description
The present invention provides a system and method for facilitating authentication and data/content integrity verification of printed documents underlying legal transactions and other documents requiring durability, including real estate and loan transactions, for example. A Unique Content Identifier parses the document one page (or other pre-determined segment) at a time. Each segment of the document is assigned a digit or group of digits, and each page or document segment can be provided with a single digit in the overall identifier. The entirety of digits associated with a document is aggregated into an authentication string.

A document security system for securely printing documents that are uniquely marked on each page of ordinary or specialized paper with a security mark such that copying and or alteration is prevented, the security mark comprising information relating to the document and further being unique to each page having specific information relating to each page of the document.
