The apparatus of Claim 1, further comprising:

a search mechanism that:

employs an address to index a set of memory blocks that comprises the plurality of contiguous, differently-sized memory blocks; and

associates state information with the address for each of the set of memory blocks;

wherein the modified buddy system memory allocator identifies the plurality of contiguous, differently-sized memory blocks through employment of the state information that corresponds to the plurality of contiguous, differently-sized memory blocks.
